Joelene senior Attorney, Conveyancer and Notary Public with extensive experience in Insolvency Law, Liquidations, Informal Winding Down of Businesses, Deceased Estate Administration, Curatorships, Commercial Law and Business-related Transactions, and Divorce Receiverships. With 18 years of specialised practice, she is recognised for her technical expertise across the full lifecycle of business and financial distress matters, estate and related litigation, and complex commercial legal work.
Joelene obtained her LLB degree (2006) from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and was admitted as an Attorney and Conveyancer in 2008, and as a Notary Public in 2009. She completed a Diploma in Insolvency Law (University of Pretoria, 2011) with distinction, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration (Cum Laude, 2017) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA, 2019) from the Nelson Mandela University Business School.
She leads BBV’s Insolvency, Liquidations, Recoveries & Collections Department, as well as the Deceased Estates Department, and regularly accepts appointments as a Liquidator, Trustee and acts as Insolvency Practitioner nationally.
In addition to formal liquidations, Joelene frequently advises on and manages informal winding down processes for businesses, providing commercially sensible alternatives to Companies Act procedures where appropriate. She also deals with a wide range of commercial law matters, including contract drafting, business transactions, shareholder disputes, and general advisory work.
Joelene has been a member of the South African Restructuring and Insolvency Practitioners Association (SARIPA) since 2010. She has served as the Eastern Cape Regional Chairperson since 2015, has been a National Board Member since 2016. She was elected to the Executive Committee in 2021 and in 2025. She continues to serve on several national committees, contributing to the enhancement of the insolvency and restructuring profession.
Her style of practice is solutions-driven and commercially aligned. She prioritises efficiency, practical problem solving, and clear outcomes for clients particularly in matters involving financial distress, business risk, estate administration, and complex commercial issues.
